Kip Deville led throughout for a 1 1/2 length win over Majestic Note in the $40,000 Texas Heritage for 3-year-olds at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night. It was another three lengths back to Slick City Nites in third.

Kip Deville ($14.40) took the lead soon after the start of the one-mile race, and led the field through fractions of 23.90 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.77 for the half-mile mark, and 1:12.93 for six furlongs. He went on to cover the distance over a fast track in 1:39.13.

"We knew he had some early speed and we were able to get the lead," said Quincy Hamilton, who rode Kip Deville for co-owner and trainer Mike Neatherlin. "He relaxed and had plenty left at the end."

Kip Deville has now won 3 of 6 starts and $50,062. He is co-owned by Roy Cobb. Kip Deville is an Oklahoma-bred son of Kipling.
