The longshot Kingsport held off the favorite Saturday to win the Kingarvie Stakes at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Outsider Kingsport led all the way to notch his first stakes in his first start around two turns Saturday in the $125,400 Kingarvie at Woodbine.

Kingsport ($24.60) set moderate fractions of 24.56 seconds, 49.39, and 1:15.35 in the 1 1/16-mile route for 2-year-olds. The favored Phil’s Cocktail took dead aim at him early in the stretch, but Kingsport repelled that challenge to prevail by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:46.32.

Bear At Last finished third, and second choice Goodoldhockeygame wound up fourth in the eight-horse field of Ontario-sired runners.

Eurico Da Silva inherited the mount on Kingsport from Jesse Campbell, who injured his knee in the second race and missed the remainder of the card. Sid Attard trains the son of Milwaukee Brew for Goldmart Farm.

“Sid was very confident in the horse, and he looked amazing,” Da Silva said. “He wanted the horse in a good position. It looked like we had a couple of other speed [horses] in there, but my horse broke on top and was so easy on the lead. I knew Sid would be happy with the way I rode him.”
