Key race points out Sir Officer


WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Sir Officer exits a key race and is the one to beat in Sunday's $40,000 Buffalo Stakes here at Assiniboia Downs. The Buffalo, a one-mile race for Manitoba-bred 2-year-olds, drew a field of nine.

After winning his career debut on July 16, Sir Officer finished third in the six-furlong Winnipeg Futurity on Aug. 7. Nechako, the second-place finisher from the Winnipeg Futurity, won the New Westminster at Hastings in his next start while the fourth-place finisher, Country Humor, won an allowance race here last Saturday.

Trainer Lorna Gray sends out restricted stakes winners Smart Miss and Untroubled for the Buffalo.

Smart Miss won the six-furlong North Dakota Stallion Stakes last time out, while Untroubled took the six-furlong CTHS Sales Stakes in his most recent start.

Pinotage makes her first start locally and will race with Lasix for the first time after two starts against maiden claimers at Woodbine.

Exotic Force won the restricted Frank Arnason Sire Stakes here two races ago.

Also entered are Mynameisgeorge, Roman Dodger, Super Duper Me, and Redna.

* Hey Hey Renee, winner of three stakes here this year, heads a list of 10 fillies and mares nominated to the $65,000 Matron Breeders Cup at 1 1/8 miles here Sept. 23. Elite Mercedes and The Max, both winners of two stakes here this year, top the list of nine colts and geldings nominated to the $65,000 Gold Breeders Cup at 1 1/8 miles on closing day, Sept. 24.
