Key Lory wires Red Bank at 4-1

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Despite his undefeated record on the turf, including a win in the Grade 3 Oceanport Handicap here last year, Key Lory was sent off in the Grade 3 Red Bank Handicap as the fourth choice at 4-1. But the 8-year-old proved once again that he is a turf horse to be feared, as he took the lead out of the gate and never relinquished it, defeating seven other horses in the $100,000 Red Bank on Saturday.

Key Lory ($10.80) extended his winning streak to four in a row, all on turf, dating back to his win in the Oceanport. He was making his first start of the year, having been away from the races since September. All of his wins have come wire to wire. With Harry Vega aboard, he covered the mile distance in 1:35.92 before a crowd of 17,534 and finished one length ahead of Sardaukar. Spruce Run was third.

Trainer Dennis Manning, who trains Key Lory for Mack Fehsenfeld, said the horse would be pointed to the Oceanport on June 15 and the Grade 1 United Nations Handicap July 6.

* Once Around ($20.60) really has an affinity for the Monmouth turf course, as she improved to 2 for 2 in Monmouth turf stakes with a win in the $50,000 Revidere Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. Once Around, trained by Vicki Oliver, covered the mile distance in 1:37.30 under Joe Bravo and defeated the 4-5 favorite Affirmed Dancer by a neck.
