Key factor: Binnifactor

SALEM, N.H. - So far this meet, no horse has been able to get in front of Binnifactor. Known for his blazing speed, Binnifactor will have a chance to become a stakes winner for the first time on Saturday, when he tops a field of seven in the $25,000 Rockingham Sprint Handicap.

Binnifactor was assigned 119 pounds for the six-furlong Sprint and has Dyn Panell slated to ride. He is owned by George Pyliotis and trained by Peter Bazeos. The Anthony Pyliotis-owned, Bazeos-trained Captain Red poses the biggest challenge to Binnifactor. Captain Red has a more extensive racing resume than Binnifactor and he was also responsible for one of the fastest races of the Suffolk Downs spring meet. He gets in the Sprint at 121 pounds; Josiah Hampshire Jr. rides.

Binnifactor has beaten allowance company impressively in his two starts this meet.

Captain Red, with earnings of nearly $200,000, is the only member of the Sprint field with the speed to stay with Binnifactor. He blazed through the early fractions in an allowance in his lone start of the meet but was run down late by Cox's Sweep.

Cox's Sweep is back to face Captain Red one more time. He has beat him twice in his last three starts, and was third to Captain Red when that one won an allowance in Boston in 1:09.80. He is a stretch-runner who will benefit greatly from a speed duel between the Bazeos trained horses.

* Saturday's card also features the 1 3/16-mile leg of the Brass Monkey starter handicap series. Core Idea, winner of the recent nine-furlong leg, and Crook on the Run, who defeated Core Idea in a mile and 40 yards starter allowance last week, will hook up once again. Core Idea has the speed, but he was worn out last time when caught up in a speed duel with Bo Barley, who is also in the lineup Saturday. That should set things up nicely for the stretch-running Crook on the Run.
