Kentucky equine photographer Stewart dies at age 39

Equine photographer Jason Scott Stewart, 39, died unexpectedly last Tuesday. The cause of Stewart’s death remains undetermined.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Stewart worked full-time with Pat Lang Photography for 21 years covering racing as assistant track photographer at Keeneland, Turfway Park and River Downs.

Recognized for his outstanding photography skill, he also cocovered five Kentucky Derbies and a Preakness.

“I’ll miss Jason’s quick wit and sense of humor,” said Patrick Lang, Stewart’s longtime friend and employer. “He was truly a great photographer, passionate about horse racing and every Cincinnati sports team for that matter. He will be dearly missed by me and all who knew him.”

Stewart is survived by his wife Karie, sons James and Chance, stepson Dean, brother Dean, his father James Worley and his mother Linda Armacost. Services are Tuesday May 7, 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7121 Plainfield Rd. Cincinnati, Oh 45236

This is a real loss. Jason was a great guy and a great asset to racing. He knew so much about what was going on at the tracks he worked and the tracks that he didn't. I already miss him. He made this long winter at Turfway almost bearable.
