This weekend's Kentucky Derby prep-race results shook up the outlook for the May 7 race at Churchill Downs once again, with early Derby favorite Uncle Mo suffering a shocking upset in Saturday's Wood Memorial at Aqueduct behind Toby's Corner and Arthur's Tale. Out West, the scratches of Jaycito and Premier Pegasus left the Santa Anita Derby ripe for an upset, and maiden winner Midnight Interlude stepped in to give trainer Bob Baffert his third Kentucky Derby contender. At Hawthorne, the unheralded Todd Pletcher traineee Joe Vann turned in a solid performance in the Illinois Derby.

GLORIOUS ANGEL ran against a speed bias when fifth in an April 21 maiden special. Trainer Mark Casse hit with 20% of his second-out droppers to maiden-claiming company over the past five years ($1.50 ROI). MORNING HAS BROKEN was a chalky second vs.
