Kentucky Derby notes


Jay Privman reports that leading Kentucky Derby contender Brother Derek breezed five furlongs in 1:00.20 on Sunday at Santa Anita. It was the ninth-best of fifty works at the distance that day. Brother Derek is preparing for a run in Saturday's $750,000 Santa Anita Derby.

Dave Grening reports that Keyed Entry, the winner of the Grade 2 Hutcheson at Gulfstream, and runner-up in the Grade 3 Gotham at Aqueduct, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.80 on Sunday over the Belmont training track.

Undefeated three-year-old Showing Up breezed five furlongs in 1:00.80 on Sunday at Gulfstream. Both Keyed Entry and Showing Up are scheduled to race in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on Saturday at Aqueduct.

Marcus Hersh reports that the third-place finisher in the Gotham, Sweetnorthernsaint, will point for the Illinois Derby instead of the Wood Memorial.

Mike Welsch reports that Florida Derby winner Barbaro, runner-up Sharp Humor, third-finisher Sunriver, and seventh-place finisher Flashy Bull will make their next starts in the Kentucky Derby.
