Anyone has any thoughts about Baffert running Dortmund in the preakness possibly ruining AP chances of a triple crown? As a racing fan i like to see Dortmund race against him again. If AP want to be considered a champion he should run against all comers. Also Lukas is thinking of running Mr. Z in the preakness which i think is a little odd cause he is owned by Zayet too.

I don't believe Mr. Baffert has a choice as whether or not to run Dortmund. AP and Dortmund have different owners, so Baffert serves 2 clients. Imagine him recommending Shah not to run Dortmund and denying the colt and owner a chance to win the middle jewel; I'd move Dortmond into the Pletcher barn the very next day.

East coast got their butt whipping again. Everybody knew the 'ice-cold' Trifecta was Cali horses. Millions had it. Please East, don't even show up next year. Every year drf gives the highest beyer to an east horse. Material had a 110 beyer after a mile and 1/8 in 1:53. What a joke. The East made the track very deep and slow, hoping an East horse would win. The track was at least 3 secs slow. Private Zone can jog 7 furlongs in 1.22. There is a reason nobody breeds for the so call 'classic' distance anymore. Nobody runs on dirt a mile and 1/2. Not even older horses. The East better get on the bandwagon and breed for speed. And ice-cold Cali Super Hi in the Breeders Cup big race this year. Dosage is dead. Beyers are dead.

California based horses had always been major players in the Derby. In my lifetime, I recall Winning Dolors, Ferdinand, Sunday Silence, Silver Charm, F. Pegasus, Giacomo.... The drought came as a result of Santa Anita switching from a dirt track to that synthetic piece of sh!# surface that resembled turf more than dirt, producing Derby runners more suited for the Arlington Million than the Derby. With the Chrome and now American Pharoah winning the roses, Santa Anita is a major player again in producing Derby winners.

Isnt the kentucky derby the best time to win over new young fans ? But the drf plus creates a berlin wall.

I joined DRF Bet's, i looked at how to add money to my account, a drop down window said Visa or MasterCard, i had a Discover card,so i went and bought a Visa Debt and loaded $200 on the card, then i tried to load the card ,it kept saying denied, i called DRF , they said VISA Blocked all online betting ,with their cards, So i spent all winter watching prep races and replace, just to bet the Kentucky Derby and in the end i could not make a Bet, YOU WOULD THINK DRF WOULD LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT VISA, at least take the Visa word of their drop down menu

Not sure how you can include Calvin Borel when he has won three Derbies in recent years. Pletcher and Beyer and the rest ...I hear you there.

Stiop with the times ...time only matters to the losers in a race. It's not the Olympics qualifying heats

Racehorse time does matter when I am trying to define a great horse or a Freak. Ray S. is calling AP a Freak.......well, maybe his bar is lower than mine. AP's time in this year's Derby is the 15th slowest in the last twenty years.......might be your's or Ray's definition of a Freak...........but not mine.

I don't know why drf bloggers didn't listen to me when I said Dortmund will not win and be out of the exacta !!!!! How can you expect a horse with. Low vo2 max and low lactate threshold to win the kentucky derby????? I said you rather go with American pharaoh, firing line, mubtaahij, and materiality as they were closing coming off the rail. With better trips, materiality, Danzig moon, would have had 3rd with frosted as well !!!!

Come on folks this horse is a freak. forget about all the excuses. He won and he's the best 3yo out there probably the best horse period. The funny part is the people around this horse were all convinced he could not be beat the whole stable knew he was better than DORTMUND.When a reported asked MARTIN GARCIA what the difference was between the two was he replied the other" horse is fast."..its that simple the fastest horse won.

Of course he's a freak, and his 3/5 odds in the Preakness will reflect that most believe it.
You Feel Lucky More than 1 year ago
Yea, he's a freak all right......Derby in 2: 03 and ran the last 1/2 mile in 51.1......just leaps off the page......FREAK.

He ran down two quality horses that were on an easy early pace, he went wide all the way which had to cost him 5 lengths (which is one second) he was asked for run but wasn't all out. He certainly could of went faster but I don't think that was the goal. He beat the best crop of 3 year Olds we have seen in a long time and he beat the second and third best 3 year Olds (one undefeated) even though they both ran their race in defeat. He was in complete control and was ridden in complete confidence taking him wide by design the whole way. When he goes fast everyone says he didn't beat anything , when he beats the best the time wasn't good enough. When they go faster he will go faster. So he has beaten everyone so why would that change? Only trouble can defeat him, but when they take him wide to avoid trouble there won't be much chance of that. You can't compare different tracks or the same track different years. I figure he was a race away being where they wanted to be in the Derby, watch out in the Preakness he's legged up and ready for his best race. Victor will have to have him in a full nelson in the Preakness to keep him from giving everyone the fast time they want so he can save something for the Belmont. I think most will agree with me because like I say the 3/5 will reflect that. That being said, it doesn't matter to me if he wins the Preakness or the Triple Crown or pulls up on the turn because both races will be a no play for me. I have seen triple crown winners before but found it more profitable beating them when they failed, but you have to know when to beat them and when not to and this year I'm not going to try. When Affirmed and Alydar ran in the Preakness and Belmont I made some money betting "house exactas" at Caliente race track, when Secretariat won the Belmont I didn't bet the race and just watched it on TV, after he won I just went "Wow" and was forgotten about in an hour with only small talk about him afterwards. This is because I had no dog in the fight and didn't bet the Preakness or Belmont that year, I didn't make any money on him or against him at that point, later on I did. I guess this is because I'm a handicapper and horse player/gambler but not a race fan and I couldn't care less about a race that I haven't got a bet on. My comment's about AP are strictly observation and could care less what he does in a race I'm not betting on. If he won the Belmont by 50 in track record time being the first triple crown winner in years or pulls up on the turn it will make no difference in my life.. This is a tough game and one has to bet with their head and not their heart. I don't like to see the pretty horses run and I am not a fan of any unless I cash on them, and even when I do they are forgotten about by the time the next playable race comes up. I don't see anything stopping this horse but like I say it doesn't matter to me either way because the Preakness and probably the Belmont will be a no play if he goes. Plenty of other races to play.
