Kentucky Derby 2012: I’ll Have Another breezes

I'll Have Another is scheduled to work out once more in California before traveling to Kentucky.

I’ll Have Another, the winner of the Santa Anita Derby and one of the top California-based contenders for the Kentucky Derby, breezed six furlongs in 1:13.60 at Hollywood Park on Thursday.

Trained by Doug O’Neill, I’ll Have Another worked alone. The exercise was his first workout since the Santa Anita Derby victory on April 7, and was notable because of the breezing designation. Horses working in Southern California are often described as working handily. Horses listed as breezing are considered to have completed workouts in an easier fashion.

“We’re in maintenance mode,” O’Neill said of I’ll Have Another’s preparation. “He worked fantastic. He worked by himself. He gives 100 percent every time. He doesn’t need to be pressed.”

Owned by Paul and Zillah Reddam, I’ll Have Another will have an additional workout at Hollywood Park on April 27 before traveling to Churchill Downs on April 28, O’Neill said.
