Kentucky Cup Juvenile preview

Turfway Park - Race 9
1 1/16 Miles (Polytrack)
Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes (Grade 3)
Purse $100,000.

U D GHETTO finished best of the pace runners in his first route start, and he was good enough to rack up an 89 Beyer in his maiden score at Ellis Park on August 26. The gelding has important Polytrack experience, and will likely be taken off the expected hot pace after breaking from the outside post. Contention runs deep in this Grade 3 so looking for a longshot might be the best way to attack the race. U D Ghetto is 10-1 on the track's morning line, and the change of tactics may do him some good.
U D Ghetto's trainer, Anthony Reinstedler, will also send out SHERMANESQUE. The likely favorite finished a good second in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor two starts back, and that race produced three next-out winners in graded performers Circular Quay and Chace City, and 87 Beyer maiden graduate Pegasus Wind. Shermanesque then failed to switch leads when third in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special, but that race was flattered when runner-up King of the Roxy returned to win the Grade 2 Futurity at Belmont. Shermanesque has rated kindly behind horses in the past, and that experience should serve him well in this bulky field.
IZZIE'S HALO is still a maiden, but he just missed going long in the Cradle at River Downs, and his Beyers make him competitive with these. He's another that should benefit from a quick pace, and trainer Tom Amoss is having a super year. He wouldn't be a surprise at all.
NATIVE RULER is unbeaten on turf, and adds Lasix for his Polytrack debut. He has good early speed, and may be sent immediately to the front from his advantageous inside draw.
