Kelly Kip to stand '03 in New York

Kelly Kip, who set three track records during his racing career, arrived over the weekend at Highcliff Farm in Delanson, N.Y., to stand the 2003 breeding season.

The stud fee for Kelly Kip, owned by Hobeau Farm, is $2,500.

An 8-year-old son of Kipper Kelly, Kelly Kip stood his first two seasons in Florida at Meadowbrook of Ocala Jockey Club for $3,500. His first foals are now weanlings.

Trained by Allen Jerkens, Kelly Kip won $1,157,142 during his career, which spanned five seasons and yielded a record of 15-3-4 from 31 starts. He won 10 stakes, including the Grade 3 Sanford and Tremont when he was 2 and the Grade 3 Bold Ruler, which he won at 4 and again at 5. Among the Grade 2's won by Kelly Kip were the Forest Hills and De Francis Memorial Dash.

Kelly Kip, out of the John's Gold mare Marianne Theresa, set three tracks records that are still standing, including Belmont Park's five-furlong record of 55.75 seconds.

Jerkens, a Hall of Fame trainer, said Kelly Kip was the fastest horse he has trained.
