Keertana gets up in Indiana Downs Distaff

Indiana Downs canceled all of their dirt races Monday evening due to the main track being uneven following heavy rains over the weekend. Three races that were scheduled on the turf were contested.

In the $100,000 Indiana Downs Distaff, which was scheduled for the turf, Keertana came from just off the pace to defeat nine other 3-year-old fillies. Jockey Jesus Castanon kept Keertana to the inside while chasing the early pace before swinging her to the outside and rallying in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length.

Trained by Tom Proctor, Keertana returned $7 to win as the favorite. Fleet Streak led in the stretch but was overtaken late and finished second. Complicity was another half-length back in third. Keertana ran mile on a firm turf course in 1.36.40.

Dr. Powers led every step of the way and was a huge upset winner in the $70,000 Florence Henderson. Dr. Powers was the longest shot on the board and gave both jockey Gabriel Lagunes and trainer Denis Cluley their third lifetime stakes victory. The 4-year-old Indiana-bred filly returned an eye -opping $185.00 to win when defeating a full field of 12 Indiana-bred fillies and mares by a l1 3/4 lengths.

Linda's Lace made a huge run into the stretch only to flatten out and finish second, 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Monica Unbridled in third.

Dr. Powers ran the mile and a sixteenth over the firm turf course in 1.43.40.
