Keeneland: Straight mending after accident

Email

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Jockey Matthew Straight was recovering Monday from a shoulder fracture sustained Sunday at Keeneland after being thrown from his mount, 107-1 shot Maid On a Mission, during the fifth race. The 26-year-old jockey was still hospitalized at the University of Kentucky Medical Center as of Monday morning but otherwise is fine, according to Keeneland medical personnel.

His twin brother, Michael, is wheelchair-bound in the wake of his August 2009 spill on the Polytrack at Arlington Park. The Straight family currently has a lawsuit pending against Keeneland, which at the time of the Arlington accident was a principal in the manufacturing and marketing of Polytrack. Keeneland sold out its interest in Polytrack in December 2011.
