Keeneland sale on record pace

There were no million-dollar lots by 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Keeneland September yearling auction's eighth of 14 sessions, but the sale remained on a record pace.

Tuesday's afternoon session-leader was Hip No. 2,630, a $250,000 Petionville filly out of So Unusual. Pope McLean's Crestwood Farm sold the filly as agent, and Taylor Stables was the buyer.

The Monday session sold 284 yearlings for $19,377,000, up 11 percent from last year's total for 291 lots. The 2006 average price was $68,229 (up 14 percent) and the median was $55,000 (up 17 percent). In total, through Monday the auction had sold 1,729 yearlings for $349,955,500, resulting in an average of $202,403 and a $100,000 median. The seven-day cumulative figures were up 3 percent, 6 percent, and 5 percent, respectively.

The sale was to continue through Sept. 25.
