Keeneland sale preview: Four run furlong in 9.8 seconds

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Two juveniles worked a quarter-mile in 20.8 seconds and four went an eighth in 9.8 seconds as the fastest horses breezing Thursday for Keeneland’s April 2-year-old sale.

Working over Keeneland’s Polytrack, Hip Nos. 119 and 122 put up the bullet quarter-mile times. Niall Brennan, agent, consigned both. Hip No. 119 is a Hat Trick colt out of Chiming Dixie, by Dixieland Band. Hip No. 122 is an Empire Maker colt out of Cosmic Wish, also by Dixieland Band.

Two of the horses working a furlong in under 10 seconds were by freshman sire Street Sense. They were the Wavertree agency’s Hip No. 147, a colt out of Grade 1-placed Good Student, by Louis Quatorze; and the Murray Smith agency’s Hip No. 150, a filly out of Gwinnett, by Vindication. The other two horses covering an eighth in 9.8 seconds were Jon Jazdzewski’s Hip No. 107, a City Place colt out of Bourbon Night, by Arch; and the Eddie Woods agency’s Hip No. 138, a Broken Vow colt out of Fashion Girl, by Tactical Cat.

Two sale fillies who didn’t breeze Thursday are entered for their first starts in Keeneland’s second race Saturday. They are Hip No. 73, a Tiznow-Terrifee filly named Tiz Terrific, and Hip No. 127, a Stormy Atlantic-Dance With Grace filly named Grace Abounds. Hip No. 73 is from the family of 2005 Kentucky Oaks winner Summerly, and Hip No. 127 is a half-sister to Grade 1-placed Setsuko and Indy Dancer.

The auction also will feature the sale of one of Storm Cat’s final three foals. That is Hip No. 151, a colt out of Grade 1 winner Halo America.

The Keeneland April 2-year-old sale is a one-day auction and will take place Monday beginning at 4 p.m. in Keeneland’s sale pavilion in Lexington.
