Keeneland: Rosario breaks meet record for wins

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Joel Rosario broke the spring meet record for wins at Keeneland on Thursday after booting home his third winner of the day in the track’s sixth race for his 33rd win.

Rosario, 28, broke the 32-win record held by Randy Romero, set in 1990. Almost certainly, the feat will allow him to top the spring meet standings when the Keeneland meet ends Friday, displacing Julien Leparoux, who has won the rider’s title at five consecutive Keeneland meets, including the last three fall meets.

Rosario has notched the majority of his wins on horses trained by Michael Maker and owned by Ken Ramsey, who have both already set new records for number of wins for a trainer and owner at the spring meet. With the win in the sixth, both Ramsey and Maker notched their 21st wins of the meet. The previous training record was 16, and the previous owner record was 12.

The fall meet record of 45 wins by a jockey was set in 1991 by Pat Day.

Watching old films of Jockeys like Laffit Pincay and Jorge Velasquez,,,,,at THE PEAK Of there careers ,,,,,,its like watching a rerun,,,,,His Riding Style reminds me very much of these two,,,,,,,,I Do not Believe there is a Better Stronger rider in the country right now

I'm not betting Orb BECAUSE of Rosario. I can't recall him ever winning ANY Triple Crown race.

Without the right horse no jock wins the Derby. Johnny V was an ofer in the Derby until Albarado got hurt and Johnny V inherited Animal Kingdom. His only win in the Derby. Castellano is yet to win one.Bejerano,is ofer...Prado has won one. I told everyone who would listen last year that Rosario would be a major factor at any track he rode at when he left Ca. Not withstanding the luck factor, Orb is definitely one of the ones to beat in the Derby.

He is the best rider in US period..He is so strong and best at judging pace and timing rides perfect..Not many jockeys can have the success he has on multiple circuits across the country...He reminds me of Garrett Gomez run in 2006 and 2007....Outstanding Jockey and future hall of famer!!!
