Keeneland previews slow down a bit

One week after posting world-record times in the first under-tack preview for Keeneland's April juvenile sale, the auction horses took it a little easier Monday at the second and final preview.

The day's fastest works were 10 seconds flat for an eighth-mile breeze and 21 seconds for a quarter-mile, slower than last week's record-equaling time of 9.60 seconds and record-setting time of 20.20 seconds for a quarter.

Hip No. 104, a chestnut Elusive Quality colt out of Up an Eighth, posted the top eighth-mile time of 10 seconds.

Two horses logged the fastest quarter-mile time of 21 seconds: Hip No. 60, a bay Hennessy filly out of Royal Feat, and Hip No. 116, a bay Boundary filly out of Aces.

The Keeneland 2-year-old sale was to take place Tuesday at the Lexington, Ky., racetrack starting at 1:30 p.m.

* After originally announcing that world-record-holder One Hot Wish would sell as the last horse in the ring, Keeneland officials decided to change plans and send One Hot Wish through the ring as the first horse on offer.
