Keeneland November: Stonestreet lands Fiftyshadesofhay for $1.3 million

Multiple graded stakes winner Fiftyshadesofhay sold to Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Farm for $1.3 million Wednesday afternoon at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

The 4-year-old Pulpit filly was consigned as a racing or broodmare prospect by Hill 'n' Dale Sales, as agent. Banke said that the filly would join the Stonestreet broodmare band, with 2015 breeding plans undecided.

"We liked the mare," Banke said. "We've seen her race. Pulpit's a great broodmare sire. She has the looks and the frame to be a great addition to our broodmare band. She's going to enjoy life on the farm. She can come and hang out with Dayatthespa."

Stonestreet purchased the latter mare, winner of the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, for $2.1 million out of Monday night's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale.

Fiftyshadesofhay earned $1,097,951 on the track, highlighted by wins in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, Grade 2 Ruffian Stakes, Grade 3 Iowa Oaks, and Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes. She earned placings in seven additional graded stakes, four of them Grade 1s.

Fiftyshadesofhay is out of the Grade 1-placed Real Quiet mare Quiet Kim, the dam of two winners from three foals to race. She is from the family of Grade 1 winners Snow Ridge and Afleet Express, Grade 2 winners Sweetnorthernsaint, Eye of the Tiger, and My Miss Sophia, and Grade 3 winner Fighting Fantasy.
