Keeneland November: Runhappy's dam sells for $1.6 million

Email

The Keeneland November breeding stock sale's second session was off to another flying start on Tuesday, as Bella Jolie, dam of Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Runhappy, sold for $1.6 million to Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Farm within the first 15 minutes of the session.

The 8-year-old Broken Vow mare was consigned by Bryan and Grey Lyster's Ashview Farm.

Runhappy is the first foal out of Bella Jolie, a winner during her own racing career. The Super Saver colt burst into prominence over the summer by winning the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga, then came back to defeat reigning divisional champion Work All Week in the Grade 3 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland. He returned to Keeneland to win last Saturday's Breeders' Cup Sprint over older star Private Zone, establishing a track record in the process.

Bella Jolie, who was sold in foal to first-year stallion Cairo Prince, is a half sister to stakes winner Millennium Storm and to stakes-placed winners Itsabeautifulthing and Merrill Gold, the latter the dam of stakes winner Isabelle.
