Keeneland January sale: Five to watch in the third session

Canadian champion sprinter Grand Adventure will be offered on Wednesday at the Keeneland January sale

Hip No. 896, a 2-year-old filly, by Touch Gold – Party Cited, by Alleged, consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, agent.

The New York-bred juvenile is out of the Grade 3-winning Alleged mare Party Cited, who has produced six winners from nine to start. Five of those foals are stakes winners or stakes-placed, including multiple Grade 1 winner Composure, Grade 3 winner Ready Set, Group 2-placed winner Scandinavia, and Kazimierski, a stakes winner over hurdles.

Hip No. 974, Daddy’s Dreamgirl, 4-year-old filly, by Scat Daddy – Danzig’s Dreamer, by Rubiano, consigned by Romans Racing and Sales, agent.

This Pennsylvania-bred filly is out of the winning Rubiano mare Danzig’s Dreamer, who is the dam of three winners from five to race, including Grade 3 winner Liam’s Dream and Grade 2-placed winner Holdontoyourdream. Danzig’s Dreamer is out of Grade 2 winner Danzig’s Beauty and is a half-sister to leading sire Distorted Humor. Multiple Grade 2 winner Sweetest Chant and multiple stakes winner Dancing Gulch are other notable family members.

Hip No. 1070, Brilliant Disguise, 11-year-old mare, by A.P. Indy – Jersey Girl, by Belong to Me, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

Brilliant Disguise is out of the multiple Grade 1-winning Belong to Me mare Jersey Girl, and is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and new sire Jersey Town. The mare has produced two winners from three to race, led in both the racetrack and the sales ring by One for Jim, a multiple stakes-placed winner by Distorted Humor, who missed her reserve as a yearling for $240,000. Brilliant Disguise sells in foal to new sire Drosselmeyer. 

Hip No. 1093, Crafty Atlantic, 15-year-old mare, by Crafty Prospector – Hail Atlantis, by Seattle Slew, consigned by Denali Stud, agent for Bridlewood Farm.

Though she is an older mare, Crafty Atlantic comes from a family of stallion producers, including her dam, Grade 1 winner Hail Atlantis. Crafty Atlantic is a half-sister to stakes winners and sires Stormy Atlantic and Mr. Katowice, and she is from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Bandini. As a broodmare, Crafty Atlantic is a producer of four winners from five to start, including stakes winner Atlantic Paws and stakes-placed winner Isn’t She Grand. She sells in foal to Put It Back

Hip No. 1140, Grand Adventure, 7-year-old horse, by Grand Slam – Val Marie, by Coronado’s Quest, consigned by Cara Bloodstock, agent.

Canada’s champion grass horse of 2010 sells as a stallion prospect after retiring this fall with five wins from 24 starts and earnings of $759,013. His championship campaign included wins in the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes and the Grade 3 Connaught Cup Stakes. He also traveled south to Keeneland to finish second in back-to-back editions of the Grade 3 Shakertown Stakes. Grand Adventure is out of the Coronado’s Quest mare Val Marie, who has produced three winners from as many to race. He is from the family of Grade/Group 1 winners and sires Saratoga Six and Dunbeath, Grade 1 winners Lakeway and Mushka, and Grade 3 winner Scotus.
