Keeneland January sale: Breeders’ Futurity winner Joha to be offered as racing prospect

Email

Joha, winner of the Breeders’ Futurity in October, will be offered as a 3-year-old racing prospect at the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale. The Johar colt will go through the sales ring on Jan. 7 as Hip No. 381 from the consignment of Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency.

“This is an excellent opportunity for someone to buy a Grade 1 winner who is sound and ready to race,” said Allen Kershaw, general manager of Bluegrass Equine Center, an equine rehabilitation and training center in Salvisa, Ky., which bred and campaigned Johar under its BEC Bloodstock division. “Joha showed us his ability early on, and he has certainly proven it on the racetrack. I believe he will continue his progress in 2013.”

Joha won a maiden race in his third start on the Belmont turf in June and followed with his first stakes victory, in the Colin Stakes on Woodbine’s Polytrack surface. He then finished second in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes on Saratoga’s turf course before leading throughout in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity on Keeneland’s Polytrack. He finished 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

Joha has won 3 of 8 starts and earned $427,538. He is out of the stakes-winning Mujadil mare Mujado.

Joha currently is at Bluegrass Equine Center and is available for inspection under tack.
