Keeneland January: Hips to watch


Following are horses to watch in Book 1 of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale based on their pedigrees, produce records, race records, and past auction performance of notable family members. Conformation, physical characteristics, veterinarian records, and late pedigree updates were not taken into consideration. This list reflects withdrawals from the catalog through Jan. 8.

Hip No. 86, See Ya Signe, ch. f., 2011, by Sea The Stars—Santa Teresita, by Lemon Drop Kid, consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.
A broodmare prospect by prominent young European sire Sea The Stars and the first foal out of Grade 1 winner Santa Teresita. Her dam sold for $1.75 million at the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale.

Hip No. 143, dk. b. or br. f., 2014, by Union Rags—Trappings, by Seeking the Gold, consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.
This yearling filly is a half-sister to champion She Be Wild.

Hip No. 198, Bear Now, dk. b. or br. m., 2004, by Tiznow—Controlled, by In Excess, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Bear Now, Canada’s champion older female of 2008, brought $950,000 at that year’s Fasig-Tipton November sale. She sells in foal to Medaglia d’Oro.

Hip No. 199, Bear She Goes, b. f., 2014, by Bernardini—Bear Now, by Tiznow, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
The fourth foal out of Canadian champion Bear Now. She was offered at the recent Keeneland November breeding stock sale but did not meet her reserve with a final bid of $140,000.

Hip No. 207, Blind Luck, ch. m., 2007, by Pollard’s Vision—Lucky One, by Best of Luck, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.
This mare was champion 3-year-old filly of 2010 and a six-time Grade 1 winner. She was hammered for $2.5 million to dissolve a partnership at the 2011 Keeneland November sale.

Hip No. 267, Elusive Jackpot, dk. b. or br. m., 2009, by Elusive Quality—Silverbulletday, by Silver Deputy, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.
Two-time champion Silverbulletday is the dam of three stakes producers. The first Silverbulletday offspring to be sold at auction, the unraced Silver Bullet Moon, brought $1.25 million in foal to Midnight Lute at last year’s Keeneland November sale. Elusive Jackpot, who placed in two of five starts, is in foal to Midnight Lute.

Hip No. 270, Evening Sky, ch. m., 2009, by Heart’s Cry—Eventail, by Lear Fan, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Japanese export Evening Sky sells in foal to Empire Maker. She is out of Grade 3-placed stakes winner Eventail, who is a half-sister to Broodmare of the Year Take Charge Lady and the dam of Grade 2 winner Straight Story.

Hip No. 285, Foxy Danseur, dk. b. or br. m., 2005, by Mr. Greeley—Ravish Me, by Wild Again, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Foxy Danseur has had two foals sell at auction for seven figures, including Tathqeef, by Tapit, who brought $1.1 million at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. The mare is carrying a full sibling to that colt.

Hip No. 306, Granny Mc’s Kitten, b. f., 2011, by Kitten’s Joy—Granny Franny, by Grand Slam, consigned by Ramsey Farm, agent.
The filly is a stakes-winning broodmare prospect and full sister to Grade 1 winner Kitten’s Dumplings.

Hip No. 391, b. c., 2014, by Lemon Drop Kid—Motokiks, by Storm Cat, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.
A half-brother to multiple Grade 3 winners Keertana and Snow Top Mountain, as well as Grade 1-placed stakes winner Diversy Harbor.

Hip No. 508, ch. f., 2014, by Giant’s Causeway—Sweet Trip, by Carson City, consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.
Grade 1 winner Rail Trip is a half-brother to this filly, who hails from the family of Palace Rumor, dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Palace Malice.

Hip No. 537, Up, b. m., 2009, by Galileo—Halland Park Lass, by Spectrum, consigned by Four Star Sales, agent.
A Group 2 winner in Ireland and classic-placed in France, Up sells in foal to War Front. She is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Dutch Art.

Hip No., 538, b. f., 2014, by War Front—Up, by Galileo, consigned by Four Star Sales, agent.
This yearling filly is the first foal out of Irish Group 2 winner Up.

Hip No. 541, War Drum, b. m., 2008, by War Front—Rare Blend, by Bates Motel, consigned by James B. Keogh, agent.
A daughter of prominent sire War Front and a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Rare Gift. She sells in foal to Bodemeister.
