Keeneland January: Day 4 Hips to Watch


Hip No. 1274, Cabaret Starlet, dk. b. or br. f., by Tale of the Cat—Kalosca, by Kaldoun, consigned by Claiborne Farm, agent.

A half sister to 2006 Canadian Horse of the Year and graded stakes producer Arravale, as well as multiple stakes producer Landmark. This racing or broodmare prospect is out of the Grade 2-placed Kaldoun mare Kalosca, who has produced three winners from five foals to race and is a sibling to Group 2-placed stakes winner Crillon and two-time Swiss Horse of the Year Mykonos. Cabaret Street was bred in Kentucky by Bruce Lunsford.

Hip No. 1285, b. c., 2013, by Haynesfield—Chive Blossom, by Unbridled’s Song, consigned by James B. Keogh, agent.

The first foal out of the placed Unbridled’s Song mare Chive Blossom, and a member of sire Haynesfield’s first crop at stud. Chive Blossom is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Worth Repeating, and the filly’s third dam is Group 1 winner Macoumba, making her from the family of prominent sire Malibu Moon, as well as Grade 3 winner and young sire Temple City. Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm, the colt is from the family of Group 1 winners Maximova and Septieme Ciel and Grade 3 winner Maxigroom.

Hip No. 1290, Cloudy in Sandiego, b. f., 2010, by War Pass—She Nuit All, by Lost Soldier, consigned by Indian Creek, agent.

A broodmare prospect out of the placed Lost Soldier mare She Nuit All, who is the dam of five winners from as many foals to race, including Grade 3-placed Diski Dance. Her second dam is the Grade 3-placed stakes winner Belle Nuit, whose produce includes multiple Grade 1 winner Octave, Grade 2 winner and multiple stakes producer Belle Cherie, and stakes winners Unbridled Behavior and Be Mine Tonight. Cloudy in Sandiego won two of seven starts for earnings of $63,405.

Hip No. 1313, Dark Dolores, dk. b. or br. m., 2007, by Strong Hope—Esprit d’Escalier, by Diesis, consigned by Ashview Farm, agent.

This broodmare prospect’s dam, the placed Diesis mare Esprit d’Escalier, has had four stakes-producing fillies, including Grade 3 winner Gastronomical. Dark Dolores is one of 11 winners from 12 foals to race out of Esprit d’Escalier, also including stakes winner Spanish John and stakes-placed Alydorable. She won four of 36 career starts during her racing career for earnings of $98,295.

A third-generation member of the Phipps Stable breeding program. This filly’s pedigree is highlighted by second dam Matlacha Pass, whose foals include multiple Grade 1 winners Point of Entry and Pine Island. Reenergize is unraced, and sells as a broodmare prospect. She is out of the unraced Rahy mare Voyage, who has produced two winners from three foals to race. Reenergize has an extended family that includes champion Sky Beauty, Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home, Grade 2 winners Country Hideaway and Boca Grande, and Grade/Group 3 winners Vacation and Birdie Birdie.
