Keeneland January: Day 3 Horses to Watch


Hip No. 814, H. M. Truffles, ch. f., 2013, by Summer Bird—Truffles, by Forestry, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent

A yearling from the final U.S. crop of the late Summer Bird. She is the first foal out of the winning Forestry mare Truffles. Her second dam, the winning A.P. Indy mare Miss Cort’n, is a producer of seven winners from as many foals to race including stakes winners Pressed and Carson City Babe, as well as stakes-placed winners Silver Indy and Court Mischief. The filly’s extended family includes Grade 2 winners and sires My Pal Charlie and Bwana Charlie and Grade 3 winners White Mischief and Bwana Bull. H. M. Truffles was bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III.

Hip No. 827, Whispered, b. m., 2007, by Quiet American—Orseno, by In Reality, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

This placed Quiet American mare is out of the unraced In Reality mare Orseno, who is a half-sister to champion and leading sire Unbridled. Both Quiet American and Unbridled are by Fappiano, meaning this mare is bred similarly to Unbridled. Whispered sells in foal to Girolamo, and she is a sibling to two stakes producers, including stakes winner Minery, dam of Grade 3 winner Terrain. Her extended family also includes Grade 1 winner and sire Cahill Road, Group 2 winner Dando Amor, and Peruvian champion Mr. Dany. 

Hip No. 874, Bridal Song, b. m., 2005, by Vicar—Bridal Memories, by Unbridled, consigned by Buck Pond Farm, agent.

A mare from the female family of Grade 1-winning and producing second dam Memories of Silver, selling in foal to Midnight Lute. Bridal Song, a winner of one of two career starts for $24,879, has produced one winner from two foals to race. She one of three winners out of the unraced Unbridled mare Bridal Memories, who is also the dam of stakes-placed Winaholic. Bridal Memories is a sibling to four stakes winners, including Grade 1 winner Winter Memories and Grade 3 winner La Cloche.

Hip No. 878, Bubbly Baily, b. m., 2004, by Dixie Union—Round It Off, by Apalachee, consigned by Burleson Farms, agent.

A winning half-sister to Life Happened, who topped the opening session of the Keeneland January sale. She sells in foal to Dialed In, and has produced two winners from three foals to race, including stakes-placed Sca Doodle. Bubbly Baily is out of the stakes-placed Apalachee mare Round It Off, making her a sibling to Grade 3 winner and New York sire Disco Rico as well as to unraced Life Happened, the dam of graded stakes winners Vyjack and Tepin.

Hip No. 963, Hard Life, dk. b. or br. m., 2008, by Rock Hard Ten—Life’s Pleasures, by Deputy Minister, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Sport Thoroughbreds LLC.

The only foal to race out of the winning Deputy Minister mare Life’s Pleasures, who is a half-sister to two-time Horse of the Year Cigar, as well as Puerto Rican champion Mulca and three additional graded stakes producers. Hard Life, who sells carrying her first foal by Hard Spun, won three of 18 starts for earnings of $143,454, and finished third in the 2012 Grade 2 Go For Wand Handicap at Aqueduct. Her other notable family members include Grade 3 winners Laura’s Lucky Boy and Cigar Street.

Hip No. 1143, Southbound, ch. m., 2007, by Southern Image—Trepidation, by Seeking the Gold, consigned by Buck Pond Farm, agent.

The first foal out of this unraced Southern Image mare was multiple stakes-placed winner Sweetsoutherndame, by Colonel John. Southbound is out of the unraced Seeking the Gold mare Trepidation, whose four winners from five foals to race include Group 2 winner Maoineach and Grade 2-placed stakes winner Tiz Now Tiz Then. Her third dam is the multiple Grade 1 winner Dispute, making Southbound a relative to Grade 1 winners Adjudicating and Time for a Change. Southbound is offered in foal to Jazil.
