Keeneland: Focus shifts to Cup workouts elsewhere

Flat Out is working toward a start in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Although Keeneland hits the precise midpoint of its 17-day meet with its ninth program Wednesday, all of the major fall races – including six Grade 1 events and all major preps for the Breeders’ Cup – already are in the books.

That said, the emphasis over the next 10 days will shift from afternoons at Keeneland to mornings at Churchill in Louisville, where workouts toward the BC have begun in earnest.

A growing number of works were recorded in recent days at Churchill by BC hopefuls, including Flat Out (Classic, Saturday, five furlongs in 59.80 seconds), Drosselmeyer (Classic, Saturday, four furlongs in 47.60 seconds), To Honor and Serve (Classic, Sunday, four furlongs in 50 seconds), Courageous Cat (Mile, Sunday, four furlongs in 48.40 seconds), Royal Delta (Ladies’ Classic, Sunday, four furlongs in 48.40 seconds), and My Miss Aurelia (Juv. Fillies, Monday, five furlongs in 1:02).
