Keeneland Babies for Thursday

Email

Welcome to Keeneland Babies! This meet should be a challenge for the 2-year-olds as many will race over Polytrack for the first time. I'll break down the numbers for every juvenile contest at the meet, and hopefully will improve on the profits made with "Spa Babies." Good luck!

Analysis:
First Samurai's half-brother, BLACKFOOT TRAIL, makes career debut for top first-out trainer, and should save valuable ground from inside post position. He's been training regularly over Polytrack, and Biancone has sent out live horses at the meet. STORM BREEZE finished evenly behind subsequent Futurity (Grade 2) runner-up C P West in maiden heat at Saratoga. Expect good early speed as he tries two turns for the first time. His dam is kin to Hollywood Futurity winner Siphonic. GASCONADE had been working well for debut at Saratoga, but broke poorly over speed-favoring surface. Expect better stretching out in distance. DOMINICAN is still as green as grass, but has competed against solid 2-year-olds, and fits very well in this spot. SOUTHMEETSWEST made midmove over speed-favoring track in debut. Must respect these connections in any 2-year-old event.

The Bet: Blackfoot Trail to Win (2-1 or more).

Analysis:
Pat Biancone doesn't usually run his firsters with Lasix, but give $400,000 yearling RHAPSODYBOHEMIAN extra credit if his workmate runs well in the first division. Son of top debut sire Tale of the Cat is inbred 3 x 3 to both Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer. ZANJERO didn't have easy trip in career debut at the Spa, then rallied wide over speed bias in second start. Acts like he'll handle two turns. RAJON makes the turf to Polytrack move that has been so successful at this meet, and his good early speed should have him in the mix from the opening bell. RUTLEDGE CAT makes the important two sprints to a route move for crafty barn after chasing next-out winner at Delaware. Has stamina breeding on the bottom of his pedigree. GRAPELLI has top pedigree and connections, but disappointed in two turn debut as the chalk at Monmouth.

The Bet: Rhapsody Bohemian - Zanjero exacta, Rhapsody Bohemian - Rajon exacta
