Keeneland Babies for Sunday

Welcome to Keeneland Babies! This meet should be a challenge for the 2-year-olds as many will race over Polytrack for the first time. I'll break down the numbers for every juvenile maiden contest for the meet, and hopefully will improve on the profits made with "Spa Babies." Good luck!

Statistical profiles and Week 1 summary will return for Wednesday's card.

Sunday, October 8, 2006

Race 2
6 Furlongs (Polytrack)
Claiming ($25,000)
2-year-old fillies
Purse $24,000

CHEYENNE QUEEN goes out for high-percentage 2-year-old outfit, and she showed good tactical speed on graduation day at Arlington. Figures to stalk the speeds while stalking in the clear, and figures to be prominent when they turn for home. HAVE A HOMERUN nipped 30K maiden claimers at Arlington (as opposed to the 50K babies that Cheyenne Queen beat), but she's been given plenty of time to recover from that effort, and should be in the pace mix from the very start. Barn won the Phoenix here on Saturday. ASHLEY'S PICK makes important third start of the form cycle after chasing allowance runners at Mountaineer. She will likely be part of the pace picture. STEALTH CAT shook clear to beat 40K maiden claimers, but may have to work a bit harder for the early lead in this spot. MISSING TREASURE makes first start for a tag, and is another with early speed. INDIAN FIRE makes first start for barn that excels off the claim, but takes a big hike in class. MAKE ME IN PARIS drops after facing tougher at Delaware. MAKEOVER ME scored over Polytrack at Turfway. DAYSOFWEBNROSES took lots of money in both starts, was a visually impressive winner at Churchill, and shows good works for this. An intriguing "underneath" play.

The Bet: Cheyenne Queen to Win (2-1 odds or more)

Race 5
7 Furlongs (Polytrack)
Maiden Special Weight
Purse $50,000

IFONLYJOHNNY pressed the pace while three wide over Polytrack in career debut, and returned from that race with a bullet workout. May sit a nice stalking trip off likely pacesetter PURE DRIVE. TRUELYONBROADWAY is by precocious stallion, and goes out for high-percentage barn. Don't be surprised if he shows speed from the gate. ALL LUCK worked a bullet four furlongs - presumably with the new blinkers - in preparation for this start. He broke awkwardly last time out, and the new equipment may get him to focus better on the task at hand. PURE DRIVE took all the money in debut over Polytrack at Woodbine, but got caught up in a pace duel. Should show speed, and barn is extremely underrated with young horses. MAUI was stymied by speed-favoring track when facing Futurity (Grade 2) third-finisher Kong's Revenge at Saratoga. SAM BLACK CHURCH goes out for top debut barn, and cost $375,000 at auction.

The Bet: Ifonlyjohnny to Win and Place (4-1 odds or more)
