Keeneland Babies for April 8

Email

Welcome to Keeneland Babies! I'll break down the statistics for every juvenile contest at the meet.  It won't be easy with limited form on display, but let's hope for a tidy profit.

Saturday's result:  TRISTANME finished third.

Week 1 Recap:
I zigged when I should have zagged.  I went with the Wesley Ward baby on Opening Day and Steve Asmussen found the winner's circle.  The next day, I went with Asmussen and Ward scored.

Meet record based on starts, wins, top pick (after scratches) in the money, and profit/loss of that day's play ($2 wager): 2-0-1 (-$8)

Analysis:
This baby race looks to have a good amount of quality.  MADMAN DIARIES is by a precocious son of In Excess from the female family of crack sprinter Meafara.  Trainer Wesley Ward sent out juvenile debut winner Nina Fever here on Saturday and Madman Diaries worked the same time and date as that one on March 28.  The Keeneland Clocker report on www.keeneland.comnoted that Nina Fever was "somewhat better than workmate Madam Diaries with a good finish in 23.2 for both 2-year-olds."
STRINGER BELL is the first starter by Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Silver Train and the March 30 workout matches up with an older maiden from the Eric Reed barn.
Trainer Larry Demeritte has sent out a pair of "live" juvenile debut runners at this meet and his SATURDAY DANCE looks to have been working in company with Weekend Wildcat, a colt that was nosed out here on Opening Day.
AROYALSWEET is a filly taking on the boys, but the gals can be very competitive against males at this point in their development.  She was entered in Friday's baby race against fillies and may opt for that spot.
VOYLES is bred both sides for speed and his trainer, Steve Asmussen, is one of the best at getting a young horse ready to fire first-time out.  He wouldn't be much of a surprise.  FIREPOLE finished first in the Coward Trophy going a quarter-mile at the historic Aiken Trials on March 13.  The Dogwood-owned son of the smart sprinter Hook and Ladder is the proverbial "could be any kind."  I WANNA RUN found a tough spot for his career debut.  DOUBLE DOWN BROWN finished well behind Saturday Dance's workmate six days ago.

Selections:
1.  Madman Diaries
2.  Stringer Bell
3.  Saturday Dance

The Play:
Madman Diaries - Stringer Bell Exacta (1-4)
Madman Diaries - Saturday Dance Exacta (1-2)
