Analysis:
FIRST DUDE makes career debut for barn that sports good numbers with juvenile debut runners over this surface, and the sire has been red-hot of late with first-time starters (seven juvenile debut winners this year for a positive ROI.  The works look solid.
CHIEF COUNSEL looms the one to beat off his third-place finish in a restricted stakes that was slightly slower than the filly division run later on the card at Monmouth.  He looks like the controlling speed at a very short price under Kent Desormeaux, but is no bargain at those odds as he has no synthetic racing experience.  The Keeneland Clocker Report for October 16 noted that Chief Counsel "was not extended during his effort."  Eight days earlier, the clocker noted that he "was striding well at the wire."
NORTHERN GIANT had some trouble in his most recent start on dirt at Saratoga.  It's too early to give up on a horse with this kind of pedigree, and it's possible that he'll move forward on the polytrack.  Expect improvement against this group.
PRONTO CABALLO sat a nice trip in his career debut on grass against a field that produced three next-out maiden graduates, and the winner of that heat took the Grade 1 Dixiana Breeders' Futurity earlier in the meet.  He has some speed, and may be pressing the favorite from the outside.
MICKEJOE couldn't capitalize on a good pace-tracking, ground-saving trip two back on grass at Ellis Park, then faltered after mid-moving in a slow race at Presque Isle Downs.  He draws a tough inside post.  MOUNTAIN JUSTICE "continues to train forwardly, pulled away from Azul Cielo," according to the Keeneland Clocker Report for October 6.  Azul Cielo is an unraced three-year-old filly.  A $75,000 yearling, Mountain Justice was bought back for $43,000 earlier this year. DR. HUDSON reportedly was no match for Blame during the October 14 workout, but that one just finished second in the Grade 2 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs.  SPOON RIVER LEW's workouts fail to excite.  RUSTICITY is hard to recommend.

Selections:

First Dude to Win and Place at 9-2 odds or greater

Analysis:
MISS DIANE showed speed and grit winning her career debut at Churchill Downs, and she wasn't disgraced in her two subsequent starts.  She was involved in a speed duel last time out at Saratoga, but still finished ahead of Vivid Colors, a next-out runner-up against males in an entry-level allowance at Keeneland with an 81 Beyer.  Expect jockey Corey Lanerie to have this filly close to the pace on the outside while clear of traffic trouble.
ENCORE SARITTA was no match for a promising Todd Pletcher-trained filly in a fast running of the NATC Futurity at Monmouth Park, but that was her first race against winners as well as off a short layoff, and she should be a bit tighter for this assignment.  She'll have to run and gun from the inside, however, and could be involved in a fight for early supremacy.
AFLEET MAGGI defeated a pair of next-out winners when graduating in an off-the-turf maiden heat at Saratoga.  She passed some tired rivals in her first start against winners over the Tapeta surface at Presque Isle Downs, and she seems to be moving the right way for a barn that's been very hot with juvenile performers at this meet.
ATTEMPT TO NAME worked very hard in the early stages of the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Lassie, and understandably tired when the real racing began.  She beat four next-out winners when taking her maiden at Arlington, switches to Leparoux, and may resort to rating tactics as she turns back in distance.  The Keeneland Clocker Report for October 18 noted that she gave a "very nice move under rider control."
LELA blitzed 10 rivals in her career debut during the Spring meeting for Steve Asmussen, but hasn't raced since, and could be in a fight for the early lead.  The speed-bred filly is pretty quick from the gate, and should be prominent from the get-go.  MY JEN destroyed her opponents first-out at Turfway Park in gate-to-wire fashion, but may have to do it from off the pace this afternoon.  LUNAR MIST raced greenly in her career debut, and still got the job done.  These seem tougher.  IMAGINE NOW has the right running style for this race, but may have been aided by an outside closer-friendly track when nosing out maidens at Turfway Park.  PETITE FUEGO won the slower division of maiden special weights at Keeneland, then disappointed as the favorite here 12 days ago.  She may work out a good pace-tracking, ground-saving trip.  CREDIT CRUNCH faltered after chasing a hot pace at Arlington, and was no match for Lela earlier in the year.  CLOCKWORK ANGEL needs a Beyer boost.

Analysis:
CALL ME SIR doesn't have the most attractive action in the world, but he showed improvement second-time out to place behind a well-meant debut winner.  He'll switch riders to Calvin Borel this afternoon, and should have enough tactical speed to find a good spot tracking the pace.
TRIPLE HALO sold for $100,000 as a yearling, but is entered for only $40,000 today.  He shows some solid works for an excellent debut barn, and is bred both sides for speed.
CASSIDYS JET finished last of three in his career debut on dirt at Hoosier Park, but drops in for a tag, and should be one of the pacesetters.
DRINK WITH PRIDE exits the slower division of maiden special weights at Arlington Park, but this barn does excellent work with second-time starters.  Expect an improved showing.
ANGEL'S CAN BOOGIE showed early speed in his career debut at huge odds on grass at Kentucky Downs.  He draws a tough inside post.  CARDINAL RIDGE adds Lasix for the second start, and that's a huge angle in maiden races.  He didn't have an easy trip in his debut, but still finished ahead of a pair of next-out winners, and the barn confidently moves him up the ladder.  MORT'S LEGACY's trainer, Kenneth McPeek, couldn't be any hotter with his juveniles, and he won yesterday's maiden claimer with Involved, a filly that bested Mort's Legacy during the October 1 workout, according to the Keeneland Clocker Report.  HANG 'EM's frequent workmate finished sixth in a maiden claimer yesterday afternoon.  TURWADA received praise from the Keeneland clocker on October 18, when he gave a "good energetic finish, last eighth in 11.1."  One must respect these connections.  OLDHAMBURG and PENITENT PRAYERS both show spotty work lines.  NOTE FOR RANSOM is by an excellent debut stallion, but may need the race.

Selections:
1.  Call Me Sir  2.  Triple Halo  3.  Cassidys Jet
