Keeneland: Ashland and Jenny Wiley purses increased by $100K

Email

Keeneland Race Course on Thursday released the stakes schedule for its 2012 spring meet with very little change from tradition, with the Grade 1, $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes serving as the highlight of a 15-day meet at the Lexington, Ky., track.

Two other Grade 1 events, the $500,000 Ashland Stakes and the $300,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes, both got $100,000 purse raises, while the Grade 1 race formerly known as the Maker’s Mark Mile now is being known as the Maker’s 46 Mile. Otherwise, Keeneland fans should be quite familiar by now with how the front-loaded meet will unfold, with 16 stakes being worth a total of $3,625,000.

All but one of the stakes are graded, that being the Giant’s Causeway on closing week of the meet. The Jenny Wiley, won last year by Never Retreat, was upgraded from a Grade 2 event.

The meet runs April 6-27, with April 8 dark because of the Easter holiday.
