Keeneland: Another track record falls

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The sixth track record of the meet was set Sunday when Grigio ($8.80) won the second race, a maiden special weight event at 1 1/16 miles, by 7 3/4 lengths in 1:40.86. The new mark erased the 1:41.61 set just three days earlier by Baby Afleet. Edgar Prado was aboard Grigio, a 3-year-old colt by Stormy Atlantic, for Churchill-based trainer Jimmy Baker.

“It’s a shame I couldn’t have run him earlier in the meet, because then maybe I could’ve run him back another time,” said Baker. “Obviously he likes that surface. I guess we’ll just run him back in a ‘one-other-than’ allowance on the grass here at Churchill.”

Other Poly records set so far this fall at Keeneland were at distances of six furlong, 1 1/2 miles, 1 5/8 miles, and the Beard Course distance of seven furlongs and 184 feet.
