Kaylee's Magic has field for stakes over a barrel

EDMONTON, Alberta - Another big payday appears to await Kaylee's Magic as she heads a field of seven in Saturday's $50,000 Freedom of the City for 2-year-old fillies at a mile here at Northlands Park.

Kaylee's Magic has won three of the four stakes offered for her class this year here, and Tartan Star, the only filly who defeated her, is through for the season. In the Sale Stakes, Kaylee's Magic took a two-length lead into the stretch but was unable to stave off Tartan Star's charge by a neck. Rickey Walcott, who has ridden Kaylee's Magic since that defeat, will again be aboard.

Owned by Donver Stable and trained by Greg Tracy, Kaylee's Magic began her career with wins in a maiden special weight race and the Princess Margaret. Following her Sale Stakes loss, she won the Bird of Pay and the Sturgeon River.

Her main rival appears to be stablemate Sassy Sarah, who has a win, two seconds - including in the Bird of Pay - and a third in four outings.

Ernie Keller will saddle three starters: Florida-breds Awesome Deal and Hilltop Neddy and Kentucky-bred Mia Cat Dancer. Hilltop Neddy comes off a six-length maiden special weight victory as an odds-on favorite.

R Beau Genes will make her stakes debut for trainer Red Smith after a win and a second in her last two outings.

Alberta's Rose, trained by Ryan McLean, will make her second start after finishing fourth in her career debut.

* Eleven nominations have been received for the Oct. 14 Chariot Chaser for 3-year-old fillies. The 6 1/2-furlong race should decide the divisional crown among Wild Bender, Speedy Gone Sally, and Nessarose.
