ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Katalox made quite a splash in his turf debut Sunday at Woodbine, winning the $126,200 Bold Ruckus Stakes by a head over another longshot, Dragon’s Cry. After leading early, Katalox settled into a stalking position along the rail on the turn, as Lowi Vene set honest fractions in the six-furlong sprint. Dragon’s Cry and Lokinforpursemonee both rallied wide to vie for the lead in midstretch, before Katalox rallied inside to out-finish the former, in a hand-timed final clocking of 1:09.50 over firm ground. The 2-1 favorite, Sailing Home, closed belatedly for third in the 11-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-olds. David Moran rode Katalox ($27.90) for trainer Ricky Griffith. “Ricky said don’t get in a speed duel if one comes,” Moran said. “I just got a great trip up the rail. He stuck to it well. He moved great the whole way. He had a good kick, and battled good down the lane.” A son of Old Forester, Katalox earned $75,000 in his first stakes triumph for Racing Canada Inc. and Debmar Stables.
