Just a Way wins the Dubai Duty Free last March.

Just a Way, the winner of the Dubai Duty Free at Meydan Racecourse in March, was named the world’s best racehorse of 2014 by a panel of experts in a ceremony in London on Tuesday.

Just a Way was given a rating of 130, one point higher than Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia. The remainder of the 10 runners consisted of five European-based horses and one each from the United States, Asia, and South Africa.

The highest-rated American horse was Bayern, the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita in November who was ranked in a tie for ninth at 125 with the European 3-year-old Sea the Moon. There was a five-way tie for third between Australia, Kingman, and The Grey Gatsby of Europe, Variety Club of South Africa, and Able Friend of Hong Kong, all at 127,and one point ahead of Prix de’l Arc de Triomphe winner Treve.

The Americans California Chrome, Game On Dude, Main Sequence, and Wise Dan were part of a group of seven horses rated at 124.

Just a Way, a 5-year-old horse in 2014, had one other win last year – the Grade 1 Yasuda Kinen in Japan in June. He lost his final three starts, finishing seventh in the Arc de Triomphe, second in the Japan Cup, and fourth in the Arima Kinen.

But Just a Way’s convincing win in the Dubai Duty Free at 1 1/8 miles on turf was enough to convince the panel to place him atop the list.

I agree it only take a single best race to rate a horse but without a single American on the so call expert panel can't take this evaluation serious, especially when we know Game On Dude's Big Cap was the World best performance all year!

Japan is making the medicated american horses look really bad. Better quality and health. Their best horses run for three or four years. Better training facilities and much more stringent rules.

As I understand it this rating is based on each horse's best race and is not an evaluation of a horse's performance for the entire year.

Which is why on Timeform Kingman had the best rating, and a higher rating then what Longine gave Just A way.

If Just a Way is the world's best thoroughbred then I'm an astronaut.

By the way "Just a Way ' won 3 of six races in 2014. Rather than best horse in the world, perhaps best performance in a race would have been more fitting. I guess he's a horse to WATCH' since Longines sponsors the award.

Come on , how in the world can you take this" panel of experts" whoever they are serious? Apparently they have somehow taken a horse who won a mere two races and named him best horse in the world. And you take this a a verification your bias opinion. By the way I guess you consider Fox News & ABC to be liberal media machines also.

He won 3 races.

So the rest of world voted Bayern top US race horse but our American writers voted CC as our HOY -- Go figure. I thought Bayern was better then CC too. The US is so bias just like our bias liberal media machine!

Chad, Frank can't help it , he's just another beaten down loser and a " Hater".

HOY is not the same as who is the best at any point in time. Hard for some to comprehend, I think.

It is based off their best performance. His classic rated him a point higher, or he got that rating from the Speed bias Haskell win at a souped up Monmouth park. Kingman had the highest Timeform rating of 134 or 135 for any horse this year.

The media isn't bias. They are run by the state department.

Obviously the"panel" judged the Breeders Cup Classic off of paper instead of video or they would have realized what a sham the win was after he set the table out of the gate.Congrats on winning your bet in the Classic.(Im not a "chromie never bet him)but Bayern effed up the Classic leaving many???????.His Travers flop also didn't help him in the Eclipse.Anyways all the players including the real"Older" not the Gr2-3 that showed up in the Classic are intent on 2015 campaigns. If Bayern is legit he'll have ample opportunity to prove it.The fact Just A Way won Gr1s on two continents is always impressive and hard to argue with.
