Just Rushing takes Vigil by a neck

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Just Rushing set dawdling fractions before outrunning a sharp Are You Serious in a determined victory Saturday at Woodbine in the Grade 3, $150,400 Vigil Stakes.

With Emma Wilson aboard, Just Rushing established fractions of 23.41 and 46.31 in the seven-furlong Vigil. Are You Serious came inside Just Rushing at the quarter pole, and held a slim lead throughout most of the stretch, but Just Rushing persevered late and won by a neck, in a final time of 1:23.87.

"Just Rushing, said Wilson, "showed his fight to the end today. Are You Serious was very tenacious, and I was very happy the way my horse dug back in and got his nose in front."

Just Rushing ($8.60), a 6-year-old gelded son of Wild Rush, banked $90,000 for Tucci Stable and trainer Sid Attard, who claimed him for $40,000 in the fall of 2005.

Judiths Wild Rush, the Vigil winner in 2006 and 2005, finished third 1 1/4 lengths behind Are You Serious. Favored Shillelagh Slew was fourth in the six-horse field.
