Just Another Natural, Dash Quick Perry sweep stakes


Trainer Leon Bard and jockey Francisco Calderon swept Saturday night’s six-figure stakes races at Retama Park near San Antonio. Just Another Natural led throughout in the $435,680 Texas Quarter Horse Association Sale Futurity and Dash Quick Perry rolled in the $156,660 Retama Park Derby.

Just Another Natural ($7.60) broke on top and never looked back while winning by a length over Ebrima. She covered the 350 yards on a fast track in 17.61 seconds.

Just Another Natural was the second-fastest qualifier for the finale during trials July 14, and won her third straight race Saturday.
“She was in front the whole way,” Calderon said. “I didn’t see anybody the whole race. She was doing it by herself.”

Bard trains Just Another Natural for her breeder, T.C. Flack. She is a daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Furyofthewind. Just Another Natural earned $193,878.

There was an inquiry following a chain-reaction bumping early on in the TQHA Sale Futurity. llusively Going, who finished sixth, was disqualified for interference and placed 10th. The inquiry did not involve Just Another Natural, it was announced at Retama.

Dash Quick Perry ($3.20) was a 1 1/2-length winner over As and Js in the Retama Park Derby. The winner covered 400 yards in 19.69 seconds. Dash Quick Perry earned $62,640 for the win for his owner and breeder, Pete Scarmardo.

Dash Quick Perry is a gelding by the First Down Dash stallion Down N Dash.

Political Attraction ($5.20) was a 1 1/2-length winner of the Grade 3, $214,000 Speedhorse Quarter Horse Futurity on Saturday at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Okla.
