Judy's Light gets up in time

Judy's Light caught 3-2 favorite Sax Appeal in the closing strides to win the $50,000 Power Doll in the slop at Louisiana Downs on Saturday. The six-furlong race was one of two stakes on the card for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana.

Judy's Light ($34.20) trailed the field for a good portion of the Powder Doll, then came rolling down the middle of the track late. She covered the distance in 1:12.07. Jose Riquelme was aboard for Judy Ann Behler and trainer Theo Journet.

Sax Appeal held second, finishing three lengths clear of third-place finisher Anything But Quiet. Coach Mike was scratched from the Power Doll.

Brother Bean ($12) slipped away from his rivals soon after the start of the $50,000 Big Earl and kept trucking on the front end for a 6 1/4- length win over Cush. He covered the distance in 1:09.92. Billy Patin rode the winner for Brittlyn Stable and trainer Victor Arceneaux.

* Jockey Patrick Valenzuela, who was thrown from his mount in the stretch run of the seventh race, was off of his mounts for the remainder of the card Saturday. He took himself to the hospital to be checked out, according to the stewards at Louisiana Downs.

* In the 10th race, first-time starter Slambam Sammy took a left out of the starting gate from his rail post in the six-furlong dirt race and ended up in the infield. He was retrieved without incident, while his rider, Lonnie Meche, did not appear to be injured in the incident.
