Juddmonte, Shadwell win British breeding awards

Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Farm, which have divisions in Lexington, Ky., picked up important awards Monday night at the British Thoroughbred Breeders' Association's annual awards dinner.

Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte operation won the Queen's Silver Cup as 2009's leading British-based breeder by earnings and the British Bloodstock Association Silver Cigar Box as the owner of Oasis Dream, last year's leading British-based sire by progeny earnings.

Shadwell, owned by Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum, received the Silver Salver Special Merit Award.

Other award winners at the event at Tattersalls in Newmarket included the Cheveley Park stallion Pivotal, the leading British-based sire by number of winners; Darley Stud's Dubawi, leading first-crop sire; Darley broodmare Moyesii, dam of St. Leger winner Mastery as flat broodmare of the year; Lady Bamford, flat breeder of the year; Mette Campbell-Andenaes, small breeder of the year; Overbury Stud's Kayf Tara, leading active British jumps sire; Mickley Stud's Overbury, leading National Hunt sire by winners; Lac Marmot, National Hunt broodmare of the year; and trainer Toby Balding, achievements in National Hunt racing.
