Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms, the homebreeding operation that produced and campaigns Frankel, has picked up three leading breeder awards from Britain’s Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association.
Juddmonte, which has farms in both Britain and the United States, will receive the Queen’s Silver Cup as Britain’s leading breeder in 2011 by earnings, the TBA Silver Rose Bowl as 2011 flat breeder of the year, and the British Bloodstock Agency’s Silver Cigar Box for Oasis Dream, 2011’s leading British-based sire by earnings in Britain and Ireland. The breeders’ association will present the awards at its dinner on June 27.
Juddmonte bred eight Group 1 winners in Europe last season.
Cheveley Park Stud will receive the Barleythorpe Stud Silver Cup for its stallion Pivotal, the leading British-based sire by individual winners in Britain and Ireland, and the Tattersalls Silver Salver for the sire Dutch Art, Britain’s leading freshman sire.
The awards also honor National Hunt breeders. This year’s recipients are Overbury Stud, whose stallion Khayf Tara earned the Horse & Hound Cup as leading active National Hunt sire by number of steeplechase winners and the Whitbread Silver Salver for most progeny earnings. Lady Chicky Oaksey will receive the Dudgeon Cup for her National Hunt Broodmare of the Year, Plaid Maid. Khafy Tara and Plaid Maid are the sire and dam of 2011 Hennessy Gold Cup winner Carruthers.
