Jonesboro cruises in Razorback

Jonesboro gave every indication he was sitting on a big race leading up to the Grade 3, $150,000 Razorback Breeders' Cup at Oaklawn Park, and he delivered on Saturday when he coasted to a 2 1/4-length win before an ontrack crowd of 17,052.

Gouldings Green finished second, 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Going Ballistic.

Zanjero, the 118-pound highweight, and Spotsgone, who in his last start won the $100,000 Essex Handicap locally, were both scratched.

Jonesboro ($3.60), who had worked a bullet five furlongs in 59.60 seconds leading up to the Razorback, broke well and proceeded to set the pace with Gouldings Green in close attendance. Jonesboro led through an opening quarter in 23.98 seconds in the 1 1/16-mile race, and continued to lead through fractions of 47.75 for a half-mile and 1:12.67 for six furlongs. Jonesboro went on to cover the distance in 1:44.21.

The Razorback was the richest career win for Jonesboro, a 6-year-old horse out of the champion race mare Mom's Command. He earned $90,000 for his ninth win from 27 career starts. Jonesboro has now earned $694,915 for owner Mike Langford and trainer Randy Morse.
