Jones fillies run one-two in Bayakoa

Buy the Barrel picked up her second stakes win in her last three starts on Wednesday, when she rallied for a 5 3/4-length win over stablemate Best Vow in the $100,000 Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Both fillies are trained by Larry Jones.

Buy the Barrel ($7.40) stalked the pace in third in the 1 1/16-mile Bayakoa, as Over Under and Best Vow dueled through fractions of 23.79 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.71 for the half-mile over a muddy track. Buy the Barrel moved to the leaders into the stretch, and rallied to cover the distance in 1:44.29.

Gabriel Saez rode Buy the Barrel for Hinkle Farms. The filly's other stakes win came in January, in the $50,000 Sam Houston Distaff.

The Bayakoa continued the Racing Festival of the South, when at least one stakes at day is run over the final week of the meet at Oaklawn. The season closes Saturday with the Grade 2, $1 million Arkansas Derby.

* Miss Macy Sue ($2.20) was a 11 3/4-length winner of an optional claiming race here Wednesday in what was her first start since finishing third in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint last October. Eddie Razo Jr. rode Miss Macy Sue for trainer Kelly Von Hemel, who said the filly is being considered for the Grade 1 Humana Distaff on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs. Miss Macy Sue faced two others in the optional claimer, and covered 5 1/2 furlongs on a muddy track in 1:04.11.
