Hall of Fame trainer John Nerud on Thursday donated $50,000 to Anna House, the childcare center located on the grounds at Belmont Park.

"I have more money than days left, so it makes me happy to give to such a worthy cause," said Nerud, 98, who trained more than 1,000 winners including 1968 Horse of the Year Dr. Fager and who was enshrined in racing’s Hall of Fame in 1972.

Nerud has been a big supporter of Anna House - a place for the children of backstretch workers at Belmont - since it opened in 2003.

"This wonderful place should be visited by everyone in our industry to see what can be done by a group of dedicated people" Nerud said.
