Joe Move wires Lone Star Park Turf Sprint


Joe Move pulled a 20-1 upset in the $50,000 Lone Star Park Turf Sprint on Saturday, when he shot to the front at the start and never relinquished his lead for a one-length win over Distinguish. It was another half-length back in third to Chamberlain Bridge.

Joe Move ($43.20) covered five furlongs on firm turf in 55.39 seconds. His final time was not far off his own course record of 55.13 seconds, which he set at Lone Star on July 15, 2007. Eguard Tejera was aboard Joe Move, who has one approach to racing, said his owner and trainer, Richard Bird. It's go fast when the gate opens.

"He has no slow going," Bird said of Joe Move. "He just wants to run."

Joe Move ran the opening quarter-mile of the Lone Star Turf Sprint in 21.36 seconds, and the half-mile in 43.57. He earned $30,000 for the win, which was his first in a stakes. Joe Move, 8, has now won 9 of 43 starts and $155,109.

Joe Move came into the Lone Star Turf Sprint off a third-place finish to Fearless Anthony in an allowance at Lone Star on June 1.
