Jockey race stays tight at Pinnacle

Jockey Freddie Mata had a double Tuesday to maintain his spot as the top rider at Pinnacle Race Course. He stayed ahead of Jeffrey Skerrett, who also had a pair on the card. Mata has 42 wins to Skerrett's 40.

Mata started the day by getting Tizzy's Prospector ($4.20) to prevail by a length in the first race for trainer Frank Prainito. Mata then earned win No. 42 in the fourth, getting Rapidness ($4.80) home first by a half-length for trainer James Jackson.

Skerrett tried to keep pace, winning the third and fifth races. Hog Heaven ($4.20) was up late by a length under Skerrett for owner/trainer Shane Spiess. Then Skerrett won a stretch duel in the fifth with Binn Dixie ($6). Binn Dixie was the 40th win of the meet for leading trainer Robert Gorham, who also bred Binn Dixie.

Trainer Al Stout and owner Billie Jo Smith are having a perfect meet at Pinnacle. They are 3 for 3 after Harold's Tribute ($9.20) won the eighth and final race Tuesday. He won by 2 1/4 lengths under Ricky Knott, Stout's regular rider.
