Jockey Club T.I.P. Thoroughbred of the Year Loveable Rascal to be honored at Thistledown

The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program’s 2013 Thoroughbred of the Year, Loveable Rascal, will be honored in the winner’s circle at Thistledown before the fourth race on Friday, Oct. 11.

The T.I.P Thoroughbred of the Year Award recognizes a Thoroughbred that has excelled in a non-competitive career. Loveable Rascal, an 11-year-old son of Yankee Victor, has served as a therapy horse at Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio for six years.

For winning the award, Loveable Rascal received a halter from the T.I.P. and Fieldstone Farm was awarded $5,000. Feed company Purina provided backpacks and a free bag of horse feed to all applicants for the T.I.P. non-competition awards.

“It’s fantastic for the Thoroughbred industry and tracks such as ThistleDown to support our retired Thoroughbreds, especially those that excel in different disciplines,” said Kristin Leshney, legal associate for The Jockey Club and the administrator of T.I.P. “We’d like to welcome people to enjoy a day at the races and help honor Rascal. Admission to ThistleDown is free.”

On the racetrack, Loveable Rascal was unplaced in four starts, racing on the Kentucky circuit. Homebred in Kentucky by Brereton Jones, the horse is out of winning Valid Appeal mare Tracy V., who is the dam of six winners from seven foals to race, including stakes-placed winners Fast Yankee and Talk Fast.
