Jockey Club checks up on foals

Field inspectors visited farms in six states during the last week of December in an effort to examine broodmares with early 2005 breeding or foaling dates, The Jockey Club said on Thursday. The inspections were an effort to crack down on breeders misreporting the date on which a mare foals. In August 2005 The Jockey Club added a provision to its rules allowing for the field inspections, citing the need to ensure the accuracy of the American Stud Book, which The Jockey Club administers.
