Jockey Alvarado injured at Hastings

Email

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Jockey Pedro Alvarado is out for the rest of the year after breaking both of his collarbones and a rib at Hastings on Friday night. He was injured when Bear Den, a horse he rode to a second-place finish in the sixth race, collapsed from an apparent heart attack while pulling up on the clubhouse turn after the race.

Alvarado was scheduled to ride Tommy Danzigger, the 2-1 morning line favorite in the Grade 3, $275,000 British Columbia Derby on Sunday. Leading rider Fernando Perez has picked up the mount. Mario Gutierrez replaces Alvarado on Tierra Del Feugo in the $125,000 British Columbia Oaks on Saturday.
