By by Jj (#8) under James Gonzales II edges a game Dash of Perry (#5) by a neck to win the Grade 1, $1,896,250 All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on Monday.

By by Jj held off a late surge from Dash of Perry to win Monday's $1,896,250 at Ruidoso Downs, Quarter Horse racing's richest race.

The victory marked the first success in the race for owner-breeder Roslla Anrin Prieto, trainer Juan Gonzalez and jockey James Gonzalez. The winner's share was $1,025,000.

By by Jj's final time of 21.10 seconds for 440 yards was the second-fastest clocking in race history, just missing the record of 21.09 set by Eyesa Special in 2000.

James Gonzalez gave By by Jj ($8) a confident ride. Breaking from post 8 in the field of nine, By by Jj was always near the front. Gonzalez hit the gelding three times in the race and won by neck.

"He left exceptionally well and I waited a long time to hit him," Gonzalez said.

Planet Holland, the 2-1 favorite, bumped slightly with Sixes Royal shortly after the start but recovered to finish third. Planet Holland was part of an entry with Latest Version, the fastest qualifier who was scratched because of a leg injury suffered after the Aug. 14 time trials.

By by Jj has won 4 of 5 starts and $1,059,822. The All American Futurity was his second appearance in a stakes. By by Jj finished a troubled sixth in the Zia Quarter Horse Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on July 13, but was promoted to fourth through disqualication.

Trainer Juan Gonzalez indicated that By by Jj would race at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas this fall.
