Jitterbug Joy and Sheso clash again

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Sheso and Jitterbug Joy renew their rivalry Sunday in a field of seven entered for the $12,500-added Columbus Breeders' Special for Nebraska-bred 3-year-old fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs.

The companion stakes for statebred colts and geldings was called off after only two horses were entered.

Sheso and Jitterbug Joy have faced each other in their last three races. Sheso took the Breeders' Special at Lincoln by three-quarters of a length over Jitterbug Joy going six furlongs. The two met again at Horsemen's Park, where Jitterbug Joy picked up a 1 1/2-length win in the one-mile Fantango Lady Stakes after Sheso drfited out on the turns. Sheso was back in front on opening night here, making all the pace and holding clear for a 2 1/2-length win in the Inaugural Stakes.

Jitterbug Joy drew post 7 for Sunday's race, and trainer Herb Riecken will have regular rider Dan Beck in the irons. Sheso is just inside in post 6 for the leading trainer and rider combination of David Anderson and Filmer Munaylla.

Jitterbug Joy and Sheso have by far the most stakes experience in the field and are very difficult to separate on paper and at the mutuels.

Shantac, trained by Monica Big Hair, rates an outside chance at upsetting the top pair after running fourth and third in her last two meetings against them. Shantac has a race under her belt since then, with a third against nonwinners-of-four allowance company here last Sunday. Apprentice Channing Hill has the ride from post 2.
